Some brains may be hard-wired for chronic pain

How fast do you heal from pain? Do you heal quickly? Do you suffer from chronic pain? Are you in constant agony? If you suffer from chronic pain your brain may be hard-wired for it.

According to a new study, there may be structural differences in the brain and that could be a reason why one person might suffer from chronic pain while another might not.

According to Fox News, researchers studied 46 people who had lower back pain for about 3 months. The subjects were evaluated four times throughout the year. Half had fully recovered, while the other half remained in pain.

When the researchers looked at the brain scans, they noticed anomalies, or differences between the brain scans of the people who had recovered and the ones who hadn’t.

These anomalies were discovered in the brain’s white matter, which mostly consists of long connections between neurons and brain regions.

The differences lay in the connections between brain regions and are thought to be involved in the perception of pain.

Researchers may have actually found an anatomic marker for chronic pain in the brain.

Structural differences may exist in the brain that are independent from what triggers back pain. This could mean more people are susceptible to developing chronic pain.

Usually, people who suffer from pain due to an injury are able to fully recover. However, some people remain in chronic pain long after the injury has healed.

Researchers were able to confirm their findings when they compared them to other groups of people. The white matter of patients suffering from chronic pain brains looked similar to a third group. They had the same result when they compared the white matter of the other group to a similar group.

The researchers also used the data to see if they could predict if someone who was in pain could recover. Early brain scans successfully predicted who would recover and who wouldn’t.

“The findings suggest that brains structural properties are involved in chronic pain, and more extensive studies are needed to understand the role of white matter integrity in chronic pain,” according to Fox News.

If you’re anything like me and you suffer from chronic pain there’s a patch for that. It’s called IceWave. I’ve tried it and I know my parents use it all the time. Dad suffers from chronic pain in his legs. On top of this, its maker, LifeWave, pays really well. You should check us out.
